Reed's Remember Your First Kiss
Remember your first kiss? I don't mean the one from recess in kindergarten. I mean the one where you closed your eyes, leaned in and kissed someone for the first time because they were a member of the opposite sex and you wanted to kiss them because they were a member of the opposite sex! Come on, I know you remember. Everyone remembers that kiss!
I remember mine, even remember her name. Laurie. It's one of those 'One time at band camp...' stories (yes, American Pie fans, it was at band camp). 1978, between 7th and 8th grade, at summer band camp. The end of the week brings the typical camp dance and hoping to find someone to dance with. Well, I was lucky enough to find someone to dance with AND even got to walk her back to her cabin. On the trail back, holding hands (seemed like the grown-up thing to do) in the dark, I safely navigated our way through the woods. Just outside her door, I close my eyes, leaned in ... and missed half of her lips! Oh well, I didn't care. I had bragging rights, I kissed her!
Flash forward to one Friday night in October of 1987, Fort Wayne, IN. I'd just flown in from Washington, DC for my first 'official date' with my future wife (unknown to me at that time). She picks me up at the airport and after weaving through baggage claim we head out to her car. After my bag is in the trunk, she wraps her arms around me and kisses me so hard I almost swallow my gum! Yep, I remember that first kiss. :)
So take a minute and remember your first kiss. I know you remember the setting, how old you were and most likely their name. If you're lucky enough to be married, see which of you remembers the where, when and hows of your first kiss...
